A shrine in the Co Ong area of Con Dao, dedicated to Prince Cai and linked to the story of a mother's love with Lady Phi Yen

Along the road past Dam Trau Beach, in the Co Ong area near Con Son Airport, Mieu Cau is where the people of Con Dao worship Prince Hoi An, commonly known as Prince Cai, son of Lady Phi Yen and Lord Nguyen Anh. The shrine was built to remember the prince's filial devotion and is tied to the story of the bond between mother and son, which folk tradition also preserves in a verse about the mustard green (cai) and the Vietnamese coriander (rau ram). Islanders still tend Mieu Ba (Lady's Shrine) and Mieu Cau (Prince's Shrine) with incense and frequent visits. Visitors to Con Dao come here to pay their respects and listen to locals retell sacred stories of maternal love. The worship space is small, about 10 m². The prince's death anniversary is observed on the 22nd day of the 10th lunar month; during Lady Phi Yen's annual death anniversary, the prince's ancestral tablet is carried in procession from Mieu Cau to Mieu Ba and then back. Mieu Cau is on the list of Con Dao's signature sights. From central Con Dao, follow the coastal road heading east and northeast across Con Son Island; along the way, Chim Chim Cape is an ideal spot to view the small islets. On reaching the Co Ong area, turn onto a small road leading to the shrine, next to Dam Trau Beach. It is best combined with Lady Phi Yen Shrine to complete the story of mother and son.
